Oncoviruses: Viruses That Can Cause Cancer
Oncoviruses are a group of viruses that have the ability to cause cancer or contribute to the development of cancer. These viruses are capable of integrating their genetic material into the DNA of the host cell, leading to disruptions in normal cellular processes, uncontrolled cell division, and, ultimately, the formation of tumors. While not all infections by oncoviruses result in cancer, they significantly increase the risk of developing malignancies.
