Desmin

Product Description

The Desmin [D33] antibody is a mouse monoclonal antibody that recognizes a 53 kDa intermediate filament protein identified as desmin. Studies have shown this monoclonal antibody is highly specific to desmin and shows no cross-reaction with other intermediate filament proteins.¹⁷ Antibody to desmin reacts with striated (skeletal and cardiac) as well as smooth muscle cells. In skeletal and cardiac muscles, the staining is confined to the Z-bands, giving a characteristic striated appearance.^18,19 Anti-desmin antibody is useful in the identification of tumors of myogenic origin.^15-17 It reacts with leiomyosarcomas (smooth muscle) as well as rhabdomyosarcomas (striated muscle).^16,17 Biocare’s D33 monoclonal antibody is excellent for staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.
