Smooth Muscle-Myosin Heavy Chain (SM-MHC) is a cytoplasmic structural protein that is a major component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells. Expression of smooth muscle myosin is developmentally regulated, appearing early and is specific for smooth muscle development.15
Smooth Muscle Actin (SMA) antibody recognizes the alpha-smooth muscle isoform of actin. According to studies, it shows no cross-reactivity with actin from fibroblasts (beta- and gamma-cytoplasmic), striated muscle (alpha-sarcomeric) and myocardium (alpha-myocardial). A synthetic peptide corresponding to N-terminus of human alpha-actin was used as immunogen. SMA stains smooth muscle cells in vessel walls, gut wall […]
This antibody recognizes the alpha-smooth muscle isoform of actin. It shows no cross-reaction with actin from fibroblasts (beta- and gamma-cytoplasmic), striated muscle (alpha-sarcomeric), and myocardium (alpha-myocardial). Its epitope is composed of the acetyl group and the first 4 amino acids on the Nterminal end of the peptidic chain of alpha-smooth actin.15
PSA is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease (kallikrein family) produced by the prostate epithelium.15-17
The Muscle Specific Actin antibody [HHF35] recognizes muscle specific alpha and gamma actin isomers. It does not react with non-muscle actin. Studies have shown that it recognizes the alpha actin from cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle sources. It does not react with beta or non-smooth muscle gamma actin isomers. The antibody labels leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma, angiomyolipoma […]
Hepatocyte Specific Antigen (HSA) is considered specific for normal and neoplastic hepatocytes.15 Expression has been demonstrated consistently in the majority of hepatocellular carcinomas.15,17,18 Studies have shown HSA can be used in a panel with Glypican-3, CEA, CK7, AFP and CD10.16,18
Protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5), also known as ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase-1 (UCH-L1), is a 27-kDa protein originally isolated from whole brain extracts.15 The protein is highly conserved and localized in neurons and neuroendocrine cells, forming an estimated 5-10% of cytoplasmic protein.16 The detection of fine nerves in peripheral tissues using PGP 9.5 antibodies is […]
SATB2 (special AT-rich sequence binding 2) is a human DNA-binding protein involved in transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodeling.15,16 SATB2 protein expression in normal human tissue was found in the epithelium of the lower gastrointestinal tract including appendix, colon and rectum. SATB2 protein expression was also found in non–germinal center lymphoid cells, and the ductal epithelium […]
The CDKN2A gene, also known as the p16 gene has been implicated in numerous cancers (1). The CDKN2A (p16) gene encodes a cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor protein and functions as a cell cycle regulator (1). Gene aberrations involving the CDKN2A gene such as gene deletion and mutation are commonly identified in various cancers (1,2). Homozygous […]
