Ber-EP4, an anti-EpCAM antibody, detects epithelial glycoproteins of 34 and 39 kDa on the cell membrane surface and in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells. Ber-EP4 labels epithelial tissues but does not label mesothelial cells (1). Ber-EP4 can assist in differentiating epithelial pleural mesotheliomas from adenocarcinomas (1,2). One study observed 100% reactivity for lung adenocarcinomas with […]
Ber-EP4 recognizes two glycoproteins of 34 and 49 kDa present on the surface and the cytoplasm of all epithelial cells except the superficial layers of squamous epithelial, hepatocytes and parietal cells.15-17 Want to Learn More About Ber-EP4 Antibody? Download Our Complimentary White Paper!

The Breakdown: Enzymes and Epitope Retrieval Tissue fixation can lead to protein cross-linking, which can block antigenic sites and limit antigen-antibody binding. To break these cross links and expose the antigen’s epitope, antigen retrieval will be necessary. The two most common methods to recover masked epitopes are heat induced epitope retrieval (HIER) and proteolytic antigen […]

MOC-31, also known as Epithelial Specific Antigen/Ep-CAM, consists of two 34 and 39 kDa glycoproteins. These glycoproteins are located on the cell membrane surface and in the cytoplasm of virtually all epithelial cells with the exception of most squamous epithelia, hepatocytes, renal proximal tubular cells, gastric parietal cells and myoepithelial cells.15-18
