Nerve Growth Factor Receptor (NGFR)

Neurotrophic melanoma stained with NGFR (FR)

Nerve Growth Factor Receptor antibody is a useful immunohistochemical marker, when used in conjunction with S100 antibody, in the diagnosis of desmoplastic and neurotrophic malignant melanomas, which are often negative for other melanocytic markers (HMB-45, MART-1/Melan-A). NGF receptor antibody is also expressed on Schwann cells, neuronal axons and perineural cells, as well as tumors derived from those cells, to include malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, Schwannomas, granular cell tumors and neurofibromas.
