CD141

Bladder cancer stained with CD141 (Thrombomodulin) antibody

CD141/Thrombomodulin is an exclusive endothelial cell surface glycoprotein that forms a complex with thrombin. The complex activates protein C and the activated protein C degrades clotting factors V and VIII; thus thrombomodulin converts thrombin into a physiologic anticoagulant. Thrombomodulin is also found in the circulatory and urinary systems. Studies have shown thrombomodulin to be a sensitive marker for bladder cancers and mesothelioma. Other studies have confirmed as markers of endothelial cell functions in children with chronic viral hepatitis, as a marker for endothelial cells and vascular tumors.
